This year Vision Romania celebrated it’s tenth year of supporting disadvantaged people in Romania. The July camp has been run over the whole ten years and so it was fitting that a small celebration was held with our Romanian Sunshine in the Villages team which was led again by Dani Hritac. Dani and his wife Lenuta have been running camps at Casa Harului for more than double the ten years that Vision Romania have been involved and they are a true inspiration to the Vision Romania leaders.
The camp itself was a great success with 45 children coming to the camp to enjoy a week of fun, food & worship. As Vision Romania celebrated the ten years we have been involved in the camp it was fitting that some of the Romanian junior leaders had been involved in our camps as children. Those leaders know what it means to be a child in camp and their involvement as junior leaders is a real source of encouragement for the Vision Romania and Sunshine in the Villages teams.
We also ran a May camp again this year for young adults with additional support needs and their carers. This was a wonderful camp with many new participants coming from a residential care unit that Vision Romania has supported for many years. They were absolutely delighted to be at Casa Harului and reports have been that they have not stopped talking about it since they left.
We now look forward to the Christmas Shoebox appeal as we approach the last few months of the year with boxes already starting to fill up the container that has once again been very kindly donated by Keepsafe in Dundee. Last year’s shoebox appeal brought in approximately 1,800 shoeboxes and a team of trustees went out to help deliver them. The glee on the childrens’ faces never ceases to amaze as they receive the most simple of gifts.
All of the work that Vision Romania has done over the last ten years has been the result of our wonderful supporters. The generosity and kindness the organisation has had over the years and been able to pass on to those in need has been incredible. We hope to continue this work for many years to come.
