In Dec 2010, a team of 5 volunteers went to Hunedoara to help with the distribution of almost 1500 Christmas shoeboxes generously donated by many people to Vision Romania’s shoebox appeal. In their letter to us where the children were expressing their joy at receiving their gifts, one of the Romanian leaders said, “There were about 30 children who had never received a shoebox before and therefore had never had a Christmas present before because there may be many brothers and sisters in the family and their parents couldn’t afford to give them any presents. So it was an extremely special and exciting thing for them to receive their first ever Christmas present.”
Tony Marks & Iain Sutherland will be doing a sponsored 3500 mile drive over 6 days – from Dundee to Monaco and back on the 8th to the 13th of May 2010. The drive is based on the 1969 film ‘Monte Carlo or Bust’ and involves 30 cars (29 of them leaving from London!). Each car will be raising money for charity and Tony & Iain have entered a ‘Vision Romania’ car to raise money for Vision Romania and to increase awareness of the charity. Last year the team raised over £5,000 for Alzheimer’s Scotland’s new centre in Dundee. Tony & Iain would welcome contributions whether small or large to their Vision Romania fundraising page at www.justgiving.com/montecarlo2011 They are funding the trip themselves so all the money raised will go directly to Vision Romania.
In July 2011 a Vision Romania team will go to Casa Harului and will sponsor 55 children, (8 to 12 years old) and 17 Romanian Leaders to attend the summer camp. In 2011 a second camp for children with disabilities will be fully funded by your generous donations. Funding for the camps and other projects is raised by Vision Romania through donations directly to the Charity and by various sponsored and fund raising events (the Ball, Pub Quizzes, Sponsored Cycle, New Year Dook, etc).
Vision Romania also directly supports 3 families as part of a feeding programme for children of needy families through the Bethlehem Centre in Hunedoara. The centre provides after school clubs, showers for the kids and laundering facilities for their clothing (many have only one change of clothes), skills training for adults to help them gain employment and general family assistance.
